6 Places To Get A Pizza In Lewisham

Pizza is ubiquitous among the London food scene, being sold everywhere from street vans to pubs to Italian trattorias. Once seen simply as a bog-standard or generic option, our neighbourhoods are now full of interesting, delicious and authentic local places to track down your perfect pizza, and luckily, Lewisham is generously peppered with fantastic choices. So here are our top slices of action from across the borough, including sourdough, gluten-free and vegan options.

1. The Rose - New Cross

Since taking over the former site of the Hobgoblin last year, The Rose Pub & Kitchen in New Cross, has become a firm favourite on the local foodie scene, offering up fantastic pizzas, plus other dishes. With a built-in wood-fired pizza oven that cooks-up sublime sourdoughs, you can choose from a range of toppings (including grilled vegetable and pepperoni), indulge in a calzone or even design your own, meaning that all dietary requirements are catered for. Lewisham Card holders receive 25% off, making these great value for money!

2. Noak Bakehouse - Brockley

Despite being one of the newest kids on the trendy Brockley block, Noak Bakehouse has been impressing locals since swinging open its doors last year. Whilst the cafe might be best-known for its breakfasts and fine brews, don’t miss out on the pizzas available at lunch and dinner. Choose from a small but perfectly formed selection: potatoes, goats’ cheese and pickled onion; ham, fresh tomato and basil; or pumpkin, spicy sausage and kale. Whatever you opt for, you won’t be disappointed - especially once you get a 15% discount with the Lewisham Card! Children’s options and takeaway are also available.

3. Villa Toscana

If you want a taste of real Italy, get down to Villa Toscana in Brockley and make the most of a 20% Lewisham Card discount. The traditional, floury bases topped with the freshest of ingredients will really make you feel like you’re idling away the evening in a quaint Tuscan village. If pizza isn’t your thing (if that’s even possible), then the menu also has a range of other dishes, including pasta, risotto and salad, plus an extensive wine menu, making this an ideal spot for a romantic night out or gathering with friends.

4. The Station Hotel

At first glance, The Station Hotel in Hither Green might look like it favours traditional pub grub, but once inside you’ll be greeted by a spacious restaurant and kitchen that serves up crisp, thin, Italian pizza that would even put those pizza connoisseurs the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a spin. The kitchen keeps it simple with just four choices, all of which can be made gluten-free or adapted for vegans. Plus, you can wash your pizza down with a fine selection of local and international beers available on tap, as well as enjoying a 10% Lewisham Card discount. Now that’s Amore!

5. GYM Cafe & Pizzeria

Despite the name, Forest Hill’s GYM Cafe & Pizzeria isn’t actually found in the gym on Dartmouth Road, but is actually located right across the street from the exercise hotspot, meaning you can stumble straight out of your spin class or a session in the pool and replace all that spent energy by loading-up on ever-important carbs. You also get a tasty 10% discount with your Lewisham Card whilst you’re at it. The pizzas here are perfectly fluffy and crisp at the same time – but be warned, they’re also rather big, so you might need to ask for a doggie bag – or box!

6. Bella Roma

Our final local treasure providing the doughy goodness, is the slick and modern Bella Roma, nestled at the beginning of Lewisham Way. Owned by the same family that run Gennaro Delicatessen, (one of South-London’s most venerable Italian Delis, see them in our blog on 5 Local Delis here) Bella Roma provide trademark Italian Pizzas that are made from scratch and cooked in their stone-baked oven right in front of your eyes. With a range of classic options, such as the Fiorentina, Capriciosa, Sicilia, and of course Calzone, they have all bases covered (sorry) with meaty, veggie, and fish options all available. On top of this they are open pretty much all hours, and offer an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. So you can pop by for a snack and a coffee; or cosy in for the evening with a bottle of red wine and some authentic pizza. Bella Roma offer a 10% discount off food to Lewisham Card holders.
