Previously known as The Cranbrook Pub, one of Deptford’s oldest and most loved watering-holes is undergoing a transformation, and is due to re-open its freshly painted doors to the public on the 30th August.
The Cranbrook used to be a traditional boozer that offered a no-nonsense backline of decent beer, wine, and pub snacks. Although a basic decor and somewhat dreary interior might have been a turn-off for some, it’s earthy charm and jovial atmosphere meant that curious newcomers could still enjoy a pint there. The pub was decent and friendly, but not hugely popular.
This could have been due to it’s intriguing location, and odd architectural design. Shaped like the back end of a cruise liner from the early 20th century, it is a long, slim, v-shaped construction that divides Brookmill and Cranbrook road into parallel. It is also opposite a park, and in a cosy residential part of Deptford just off Lewisham Way.
The new owners plan to build on the friendly aspect of the pub’s reputation whilst giving it the boost that it needs to attract more people to it’s doors. Family and dog friendly, serving great beer and classic pub dishes is the overarching aim, with special events such as film nights, and weekend specials including Brunch and cocktails also in the plans to keep things interesting and varied.
Without giving too much away, The team at The Brookmill having given a sneak peak of what the menu and the bar will have to offer…
“The menu will include pub classic such as their own house beef burger, a range of fish dishes including Smoked haddock fishcake with tartare hollandaise and fried duck egg, and much more. The Bar will be stocking the best local ales and supporting craft breweries is our mission and our passion – the stock will rotate with the best of what’s on offer. The wine racks will be full of delicious, natural and organic wines from our favourite supplier, Les Caves de Pyrene. And just in time for summer, we’ll re-open the secret beer garden (a total suntrap!) for BBQ’s, beers on ice and table tennis.”
It all sound pretty exciting! Make sure you’re there for the Brookmill’s grand re-opening on the 30th August with a friend and a thirst waiting to be quenched...
